CONSULTANT TEAM APPOINTED ON SEEDA'S DAEDALUS SCHEME

Progress being made in development of key site in Lee-on-the-Solent

The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) is pleased to announce that it has assembled the project team to assist in bringing forward the regeneration of the 82.4 ha (204 acre) former HMS Daedalus site at Lee-on-the-Solent and Stubbington, South Hampshire.

The team includes all the masterplanners, planning, transportation and community consultants, legal advisors and site managers which have now been appointed on the site, which was acquired by SEEDA from Defence Estates (DE) – an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) - in March 2006.

The full project team includes masterplanners Terence O Rourke, planning consultants Drivers Jonas, transportation consultants MVA Consultancy, community consultants Groundwork Solent, digital, advertising and marketing consultants Leepeckgreenfield, legal advisers Eversheds and site managers GVA Grimley.

The Daedalus site is recognised as one of the largest brownfield sites for regeneration in the Solent area, and offers the potential to provide business, employment, leisure, education and community facilities and homes for Lee-on-the-Solent and Stubbington. Over the next few years SEEDA will be working with the local planning authorities and key stakeholders, including businesses and local communities, to agree a development vision for the future of the site.

Daedalus is also a strategic site in South Hampshire and its development will contribute to sub-regional growth priorities and economic development. A key objective for SEEDA is to develop a mixed-use scheme that maximises improvements in quality of life for residents and employees, explores aviation and marine related businesses and takes advantage of the existing runways and access to the Solent.

The vision is to create a quality business location that will attract inward investment and provide accommodation for start-up, growing and established businesses, as well as exploring the possibility of providing some housing provision on the site with a mix of quality homes, including affordable housing.

SEEDA’s Development Manager for the Daedalus project, Clare Chester, says: “Groundwork Solent will assist SEEDA to ensure that the community is fully involved with the project and is kept updated as a scheme evolves. Terence O Rourke will be responsible for producing a masterplan for the site which will clearly depict the vision, while MVA Consultancy will be looking at travel and transport options in relation to the site, the masterplan and the wider area. We are delighted to have such a strong team on board, and look forward to an effective and productive working relationship.”
